Use this at the end of every training phase, in the first 20 minutes of a regular session. Why each step is there is in How to run a progress review with a PT client.
Progress review
Prepare (10 minutes, before the session)
- Three numbers that improved since the start of the phase
- One thing that didn't go well
- The client's goal from the intake or last review, in their words
- Their check-in answers over the phase: energy, sleep, pain
The review (20 minutes)
- What did you notice? Let the client talk first. Write down what they say.
- Here's what changed. Show the three numbers, start of phase against now.
- What got in the way? Talk about what didn't go well, without blame.
- What do we focus on next? Agree on one specific, measurable goal.
Write down
- Client noticed:
- Numbers shown:
- What got in the way:
- Goal for the next phase:
- Review date for the next phase:
Afterwards
- Put the goal where the client sees it every week
- Build the next phase around the goal
- Mention the goal again two weeks from now
